Psychotherapy with a Training Therapist
Rebecca Barrett-Wallis MA, RP, CCC
I am the owner and founder of Work in Progress as well as a Registered Psychotherapist and Clinical Counsellor. I primarily work with individuals experiencing feelings of disconnection, anxiety, and self-criticism. I am not currently accepting new clients but you can reach out to be added to my waitlist. I also provide clinical supervision and consultations.
Do you ever feel like you can’t live up to your own standards or those of others? As though no matter how hard you try you remain stuck or unfulfilled? In a society that promotes speed, wealth, and unrealistic standards (of beauty, relationships, even self-care!) it can be increasingly difficult to find a space in which we feel heard and validated. When life prevents you from seeing the best version of yourself, I will see it for you, bringing your strengths to the forefront of our work together.
My approach is anti-oppressive, trauma-informed and client-centred. I enjoy using Narrative, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, EMDR, Cognitive and Mindfulness based practices to help you explore and confront difficult emotions. You can expect challenging questions, with the goal of guiding you toward considering new ways of acting and reacting to the chaotic world around you.
My therapeutic skills lie in working with individuals with a variety of presenting difficulties from trauma to life indecision. I draw on the belief that the stories we hear and tell about ourselves can perpetuate harmful narratives that are hard to let go of. I work to dismantle the systems of oppression that marginalize particular bodies.
Rebecca holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, a Post-baccalaureate Diploma in Counselling and Human Development from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Gender Studies from the University of Toronto. Rebecca is certified to provide EMDR.
Rebecca has seen clients from varying populations and backgrounds including members of the LGBTQ2A+community, BIPOC and neuro-diverse individuals. She is also qualified to supervise practitioners in the field and is available for consultations.

Starting therapy is a brave and meaningful step, and I welcome you just as you are. I believe that everyone deserves a space where they feel seen, heard, and supported—and my approach is grounded in warmth, respect, and genuine curiosity.
I work with adults, young adults, and helping professionals navigating a range of challenges, including anxiety, burnout, self-doubt, people-pleasing, identity exploration, grief, life transitions, low mood, and relationship concerns. My practice is person-centred, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive, with an emphasis on understanding how identity, lived experience, and systemic factors shape our inner worlds. With a relational and collaborative approach, I draw from emotion-focused, strengths-based, and narrative therapies to support clients in building self-awareness, deepening self-compassion, and moving through life’s difficulties with greater clarity and connection.
Before training as a therapist, I began my work as a registered nurse supporting individuals and families through cancer, chronic illness, grief, and life-altering transitions. These experiences continue to inform my work—and they also fuel my commitment to advocacy and to ensuring that healing spaces are accessible, affirming, and empowering—where you feel heard and validated.
Danya is currently completing her practicum as part of the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Program at Yorkville University. She is also a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from York University. With extensive experience providing compassionate and holistic care, she is dedicated to lifelong learning and supporting individuals on their healing journeys.

We live in a world where chronic stress and burnout can easily take hold—leaving us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and stuck. These experiences impact not just our minds, but our bodies, relationships, and sense of self. Stress and distress can show up in many ways: racing thoughts, anxiety, low mood, or even physical illness. But lasting relief doesn’t often come from treating symptoms alone.
I am dedicated to working with you to understand how your unique experiences are held in your body and how they shape your emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. Through a blend of relational talk therapy and body-based practices, we’ll co-create a personalized approach to help regulate your nervous system, shift longstanding patterns, and strengthen your inner resilience. My goal is to support you in navigating life’s challenges with greater ease and self-awareness.
My approach is interdisciplinary and person-centered, drawing on specialized training in trauma-informed therapy, mindfulness meditation, and somatic practices. I work with teens, adults, and couples facing a wide range of personal and relational challenges. I am deeply committed to culturally responsive therapy, ensuring that the strategies we use align with your life, values, and community.
Somatic Stress Release (SSR) As part of our work together, I may offer Somatic Stress Release practices if you’re interested. SSR is a holistic, body-based approach to shifting how we relate to stress. Sometimes stress is good - it energizes us to take action or helps us focus our attention where it is most needed. Yet too much stress seriously impacts our mental and physical well-being. SSR is a holistic mind-body approach to changing our relationship with stress and restoring ease and resilience in our lives.
An SSR session might include: - Gentle dialogue to explore how your mind and body are responding to a current challenge - Short guided meditation or breathwork - Movement practices or grounding techniques - Light touch (self-applied or practitioner-guided, with consent) - The use of props like blankets, pillows, yoga blocks, or paper
These practices are always adapted to your comfort level and can be integrated into talk therapy or explored on their own. If you’re curious about working together, you’re welcome to book a free consultation to see if we’re a good fit.
Katrina Miller is currently completing her practicum as part of the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University. She brings prior training and experience as a certified Somatic Stress Release Practitioner and mindfulness meditation teacher.

Maya Shapiro Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
If you’re reading this, it’s probably because you’re curious about your feelings and thoughts, and maybe even about the human condition more generally. If that’s true, we have that curiosity in common. It’s what brought me to this career, and what continues to motivate me to help people understand more about who they are, how they want to be in the world, and how they can connect in important ways with others around them.
I believe that sadness, fear and anger are normal emotions that are part of living a full life. At the same time, I also know from personal experience that sometimes negativity and self-judgement can feel like too much to bear, and that asking for help is the best way to gain perspective and find strength. I use a mix of therapeutic theories and methods (person-centered, narrative, psychodynamic, solution-focussed, mindfulness) to help people see themselves more clearly, so that they can feel some relief, both on their own and through cultivating supportive relationships.
I bring warmth, focus and a non-judgemental approach to each of my sessions, and I see the world through a lens of social justice. I help people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, loneliness, self-doubt and/or those who are having difficulties with life transitions, ageing, work and career choices, and relationships. I have experience navigating mental health issues in the academic world, and a special interest in couples and family issues.
Maya has worked as a university lecturer, a corporate consultant, and a reproductive health counsellor. Maya holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from Dalhousie University, an MA and PhD in Anthropology from York University, and she is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
